Tannoy Mercury F4 Custom Floorstanders

The Mercury F4 Custom is a tall and impressive floor standing loudspeaker that uses a 25mm (1.00") soft dome high frequency, a 165mm (6.50") bass driver and an additional 165mm (6.50") supplementary bass driver to produce a high impact, authoritative performance capable of huge scale dynamics for home theatre or hi-fi use. In common with the other models in the range, it is extremely easy to drive with entry level amplification, but is certainly worthy of higher quality amplifiers to unleash its real potential

High output levels combine with deep, tuneful bass and crisp treble detail deliver great dynamics while high power handling is assured due to the two bass driver's substantial magnet assemblies. The Mercury F4 Custom is a high impact speaker suited to medium to larger home cinema systems, this when partnered with other models in the Mercury F Custom range. The commonality of drive unit design and voicing characteristics across the whole system ensuring full acoustic synergy across the whole 5.1 system.

The F4 Custom is also an exceptional two channel floor stand stereo system in larger rooms, where the authority of the presentation is complimented by the detail and accuracy of the mid range and high frequencies.  Low frequency detail is maintained even when listening at low volume. The soundstage is so involving is created when driven well by good quality power that you will be reaching for your music collection and discovering previously unheard pleasures.

To cater for both modern and more traditional décor, all the models are offered in either an apple wood or dark oak vinyl veneer.

Main Features

The Mercury F Custom series loudspeakers utilise materials and components carefully selected to optimise the system performance. Dense wood material used for the cabinet construction, including a substantial MDF front baffle, provides the essential cabinet rigidity required of a good loudspeaker design. The bass and treble units are solidly built providing exceptional acoustic performance and long-term reliability.

The Mercury F Custom Series upgrade boasts some excellent sonic enhancements:
Crossover - the crossover components have been upgraded, including a high quality polypropylene capacitor used in the tweeter feed, and the circuit topology revised to deliver greater high frequency detail, better imaging and more control at the bottom end.

Tannoy DMT™ (Differential Material Technology) - the interface between drive unit and the cabinet structure is crucial and this area is given special attention in the F1 and F4 Custom models. Bracing materials of different acoustic properties are used to dampen the driver to the internal bracing and then to the enclosure body itself; resulting in an exceptionally well damped structure that minimises the effect of unwanted resonances.

Wiring - the internal wiring has been replaced with high purity Van den Hul silver plated cable for lower energy loss and greater transparency.

Termination panel - the termination panel has been upgraded with high quality gold plated brass terminals to optimise the signal transfer with minimum information loss.

The bass performance is rich and powerful while the mid and high frequency presentation is accurate, clear and dynamic. This natural sounding acoustic balance allows Mercury to reveal all the scale and impact of original soundtracks, this as well as delivering the subtle nuances of complex audio recordings.
